Hardwood CareGeneral CleaningA good quality broom and a vacuum cleaner without a beater bar are the primary tools for keeping a floor looking like new. You should never wet mop or wax your pre-finished floor. Waxes leave a dirt catching build-up that can damage the floors sparkling surface.
Scuffs and Heel MarksThe cleaning product recommended by your flooring manufacturer, or your Just Remnants Sales Associate, will remove those nasty marks without damaging your floor’s finish. Don’t do it yourself with Ammonia, Oil Soaps or Household Cleaners. These can dull your floor’s finish.
Protect Your FloorThe easiest way to keep a floor clean is to keep sand, grit and moisture from getting to it in the first place. Mats at every entrance to your house are inexpensive and effective protection. Wiping your feet keeps the nasty stuff out and the floors clean. You can prevent scrapes, mars and scratches caused by your furniture, by making sure there are soft fiber pads wherever your furniture touches the floor.
Sunlight and FloorsAll hardwood floors experience some color change over time. This patina adds to the richness of natural wood flooring. Areas exposed to direct sunlight may darken, fade or lighten over time depending on the species of wood. Areas of your floor which are not exposed to direct sunlight will not change color as quickly. Rotating your furniture will allow your floor to patina evenly.
Re-Finishing and Re-ScreeningMost of the Hardwood floors we sell at Just Remnants can be re-finished or re-screened. Re-finishing by power sanding removes deep gouges and the entire surface of the floor. After sanding, the stain and surface finish of the floor is reapplied just as it might be on a new floor. With re-finishing you can change the look and color of the floor.
Re-screening, which removes only surface scratches, is the removal and replacement of the top layer of clear finish on your hardwood floor. Your Just Remnants Sales Associate can explain the difference. Your JUST REMNANTS floor is designed to give you years of pleasure, A little care and thought will pay big dividends in beauty. |
